Shit Hardcore Kids Wish They Could Play: Episode 5

Remember way back when, in the very first episode of Shit Hardcore Kids Wish They Could Play, where I talked about how even more awesome Brain Drill would be if they didn't have the tendency to slack off in the songwriting area in favor of overindulging their noodling? Well, this next band is pretty much exactly what I had in mind when I said that.

Phoenix, Arizona tech-wizards Viraemia could arguably be perceived as a Brain Drill clone, and this is justifiable. Both bands base their songwriting around brain-frying technicality played at Ludicrous Speed, but Viraemia set themselves apart in one major way: their songs have definitive song structure, a surprisingly easy to follow verse-chorus-verse-chorus formula that allows them to be virtuosic but still have individual, instantly recognizable songs. There's plenty of gravity blasts and riffs that will make your fingers cramp just listening to them, but the chaos is ultimately very controlled. From their self-titled 2009 EP, here's "Cancrum Oris".

And there you have it. Viraemia have been hinting at a full length for some time now, but as of right now there are no further developments. But rest assured, when it does finally happen, heads will be turned. Check out their Myspace for more info and show dates if you happen to be in their general area. Take care everyone, tune in tomorrow for more tr00 shit.

P.S. For all of you who got the Spaceballs reference in the second paragraph, you're welcome.
