We need more guys like this on TV

Auditioning for American Idol. Simon loved him

For those of you who don't regularly watch MTV (which should hopefully be all of you), a friend of mine somehow managed to get himself featured on a recent episode of True Life. His name is Andrew, a.k.a. Dr. Satan, he's a devout metalhead, and he used to be the vocalist for Kyndread, one of the best unsigned death metal bands in Delaware, until they disbanded. The episode he was featured in shows him struggling with his foot fetish, and how it poses an issue when trying to find a relationship. Now we metalheads do have the uber-macho tough guy image, but we have hearts too, and they can be broken just as easily as anyone else's. View the whole episode here on MTV.com, and tell me you don't feel for him. I should tell you now, the episode also features some girl who doesn't like being a dominatrix or something, but she's not important, just fast forward through her parts unless you're looking to get your fap on.

Ahh heartbreak, I'm sure we've all had enough of that bullshit to last a lifetime. That's why Satan has blessed us with the Internet and opposable thumbs. But in all seriousness, we need more dudes like Andrew on MTV, dudes who are down to earth and are capable of independent thought (and preferably who are also metalheads), instead of fucking brain dead mannequins like Snookie and Pauly D. Maybe then we can restore some tiny shred of sanity to these preppy robots. Plus it's just cool to see a dude wearing Decrepit Birth and Necrophagist shirts on TV. Look for an interview with Dr. Satan himself in the near future, where we'll get his perspective on the matter, as well as plenty of other metal-related shit. But until then, here's a live video of Kydread playing their old crowd favorite "Servant of Corruption" in Newark, Delaware, circa 2008.

Happy Wednesday everyone, be safe.

The Only Hardcore Dancer I Will Allow in the Pit

Ok, this blog is all about hating on hardcore dancers, but I'm going to give my one and only free card to this dude. His moves are so elegant. His punches brisk through the air like a knife through butter. And he respects his peers around him too.

This is how hardcore dancing should be done.*

* Disclaimer: hardcore dancing should never actually be done, unless for the lolz by true metalheads.

Shit Hardcore Kids Wish They Could Play: Episode 9

For a dude from the south, he's pretty fucking pale

We've featured lots of bands on this little ol' blog of ours, but it's come to my attention that none of them have been one man bands. We've featured a couple duos, but never just one solitary dude. Until now, that is, and I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, this may very well be the best one man band I've ever heard. Hailing from Houston, Texas, the band in question is Insidious Decrepancy, aka Shawn Whitaker.

Mr. Whitaker has been a key member of many bands over the years, most notably as the frontman/lead guitarist of Viral Load, but Insidious Decrepancy is without a doubt his brainchild and his alone. The riffs, harmonies and leads are definitely not meant to be attempted by novices, and to add to it he simultaneously does his instantly recognizable vocals. Are they gutturals, or are they growls? I honestly can't tell sometimes, but the point is nobody else sounds like him. And what's more the dude knows what he's doing when he programs the drums too, so much so that they don't even sound like a drum machine. Good luck trying to play it though, I can tell you from experience that it's pretty much impossible. But don't take my word for it, check it out yourself. From his 2009 album Extirpating Omniscient Certitude, this is the opening track "Contemptuous Inception".

Insidious Decrepancy's discography is available now through Brutal Bands Records, and his main project Viral Load just put out a split with the equally awesome one man band Putrid Pile a couple months ago on Relapse Records. Be sure to give them all a listen if you're looking for top notch brutal death metal. Like always, give us your thoughts and/or any suggestions for bands you think we should do an article on here below. Take care, and happy Tuesday.

Speaking of new grind albums

Yesterday I fapped over the prospect of a new Wormrot album in the works, and today the good news just keeps a-comin'. According to the Willowtip Records website, Miami grinders Maruta have just finished wrapping up their sophomore full length, entitled Forward Into Regression. The album is set to release in the U.S. of A. on February 22nd, and you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be on that shit when the time comes. In his statement, vocalist Mitchell Luna made it very clear that the band worked their asses off on this album, and that  they're just as excited as I am for it to come out. Until then, if you haven't heard of Maruta yet have a taste of what you've been missing with the video for "The Great Delusion", from their previous album In Narcosis. Fair warning, there is a tad bit of delay.

Man, I love me some good grind, let's see some kids try to pick up change to this shit. Leave your thoughts below.

Also, Wormrot are working on a new album!

Uhhhhhhhhhh

This makes me quite happy, I must say. Earlier this afternoon, Metal Injection announced that the Singapore grind machine Wormrot are entering the studio to begin working on their follow up to their uber-brutal 2009 album Abuse. In his statement vocalist Arif Rot said that they will be heading to the studio this month to record the album, which as of now is entitled Dirge. It is expected to be released this May via Earache Records, and you can be sure we'll cover it when it comes out. We'll have more on this as it develops, but until then we'll just have to make do with the video for their song "Born Stupid (A Little More Competition)", which proves once and for all just how metal elevators actually are.

Slam Spotlight Part 8

Guy on far right- "This is my emo kid impression"

Fuck me, how long has it been since I did one of these? My bad, guys. Anyway, mosh rebellion (the dude, not the words) and I have reason to rejoice now, because for once New Jersey got something right. Ladies and gentledudes, all the way from Woodbridge, I humbly present to you Digested Flesh.

Formed just before the turn of the century, these guys write the book on sludgy, organic, catchy-as-fuck brutal death metal. While they may not really do anything game-changing, Digested Flesh does have one thing in particular going for them: their sound. Nothing they record even comes close to sounding over-produced, and it all sounds like it was recorded live, which given the average budget of a slam band isn't a stretch of the imagination. Seriously, if their material sounded any more organic a dead hippie from the Seventies would come back to life just to get a boner. Aaaaand on that note, from their 2004 full length The Answer To Infection, this is "Addicted To Entrails".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaHMGV9D73E

As I said, this song was from their 2004 album, and since then they've done a split with Inhuman Dissiliency (who are also disgustingly awesome) called Accumulation of Eviscerated Remnants, as well as an EP last year (or a few months ago, depending on how you slice it) called Macerate the Soul, both of which are available now via Macabre Mementos Records. As usual leave your thoughts and credit card information in the comments below, and keep tuning in for more metal stuff.

New Dimmu Borgir video, huzzah

Happy New Year, everyone! Let's kick off 2011 with the new video for the posterboys of symphonic black metal, Dimmu Borgir. These guys just released a music video for their (for some reason) self-titled song from their newest full length Abrahadabra. Lately Dimmu have been getting a lot of mixed reviews, and while I still shed a tear once in a while over the fact that ICS Vortex no longer graces their sound with his resounding and powerful voice, I still liked the new CD a lot. As I've said before, I'm a sucker for a really good melody once in a while, and DB's use of grandiose orchestration is just what the doctored ordered. The video itself is pretty straightforward Dimmu Borgir: play the song somewhere dark, show flashes of hot chicks singing along to the choirs, and uhh... fire? What can I say, just watch the video.

http://www.metalinjection.net/tv/view/6187/dimmu-borgir-dimmu-borgir-video

Not bad. I've seen/heard better, but not too shabby either. I still firmly maintain my position that they should never have fired Vortex or Mustis, but considering the fact that they kicked out the opera singer and the keyboardist the band still did a hell of a job making the album sound pretty epic. I guess if you have to get rid of the guy who composes all the orchestration on his keyboard, the next best step would be to work with an actual full orchestra. Give your thoughts on the new video/album (or Dimmu in general) in the comments, and come back for more later.
